DIN EN 10270-2
Steel wire for mechanical springs - Part 2: Oil hardened and tempered spring steel wire; German version EN 10270-2:2011
Stahldraht für Federn - Teil 2: Ölschlussvergüteter Federstahldraht; Deutsche Fassung EN 10270-2:2011
Overview
This part of EN 10270 applies to oil hardened and tempered spring steel wire made from unalloyed or alloyed steels. They are primarily subjected to torsional stresses such as compression and extension springs and in special cases also for applications where the spring wire is subject to bending stresses such as lever springs. As a rule unalloyed steels are used for applications at room temperature whereas alloyed steels are generally used at a temperature above room temperature. With respect to DIN EN 10270-2:2001, several modifications have been made, for example: incorporation of new wire grades, updates of the chemical compositions, revision of the information for testing. The responsible German standardization committee is Subcommittee 08/4 "Patentiert-gezogener oder vergüteter Federstahldraht" ("Patented cold drawn or quenched and tempered spring steel wire") of the Iron and Steel Standards Committee (FES).
