DIN 4020
Geotechnical investigations for civil engineering purposes - Supplementary rules to DIN EN 1997-2
Geotechnische Untersuchungen für bautechnische Zwecke - Ergänzende Regelungen zu DIN EN 1997-2
Overview
DIN 4020 supplements the European specifications of DIN EN 1997-2 at national level. It is therefore only applicable in conjunction with DIN EN 1997-2 and the National Annex DIN EN 1997-2/NA. The aim of both DIN EN 1997-2 and DIN 4020 is to ensure that the structure, composition and characteristics of the subsoil are already known at the design stage and during the tendering procedure for a construction project. Geotechnical investigations and testing conducted in accordance with DIN EN 1997-2, DIN EN 1997-2/NA and DIN 4020 are required for the safety checks specified in DIN EN 1997-1, DIN EN 1997-1/NA and DIN 1054. This document has been prepared by the Building and Civil Engineering Standards Committee (NABau) of DIN, the German Institute for Standardization e. V., Working Committee NA 005-05-06 AA "Untersuchungen von Boden und Fels" ("Testing of soil and rock") as a supplement to DIN EN 1997-2:2010-10, "Eurocode 7: Geotechnical design - Part 2: Ground investigation and testing". This document DIN 4020:2003-09, Geotechnical investigations for civil engineering purposes had to be revised, as the European Standard EN 1997-2 has been given the status of a national standard and DIN 4020:2003-09 contains rules, which are also contained in DIN EN 1997-2:2010-10. As dual specifications are not allowed, contradictory national standards shall be withdrawn or revised.
