Overview
This European Standard specifies the minimum requirements for chemical protective clothing resistant to penetration by airborne solid particles (type 5). These garments are full-body protective clothing, that means clothing covering trunk, arms and legs, such as one-piece overalls or two piece suits, with or without hood or visors, with or without foot protection. Requirements for component parts, such as hoods, gloves, boots, visors or respiratory protective equipment might be specified in other European Standards. This amendment to the standard relates to the materials used for which the requirement for resistance to ignition and consequently, the marking and the information supplied by the manufacturer have been modified. The standard is a test standard and is intended for testing of protective clothing for use against solid particles. This standard serves as the basis for placing personal fall protection systems on the market in accordance with Directive 89/686/EEC on personal protective equipment. This shall ensure that a uniform safety level is specified. Test institutes, certification bodies and manufacturers are potential users. This standard has been prepared under a mandate given to CEN by the European Commission and the European Free Trade Association and supports essential requirements of the EU Directives. This standard has been prepared by Technical Committee CEN/TC 162 "Protective clothing including hand and arm protection and lifejackets", the secretariat of which is held by DIN. The responsible German standardization committee is Working Committee NA 075-05-03 AA "Schutzkleidung gegen Chemikalien und radioaktive Kontamination" ("Protective clothing against chemicals and radioactive contamination") of the Personal Protective Equipment Standards Committee (NPS) at DIN.
