Overview
This standard defines relevant requirements set out in Annex I of the EC Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC, relating to machines which were placed on the European Economic Area (EEA) market for the first time, with the intent of simplifying the means of proving conformity with such requirements. Once this standard is designated a harmonized standard in the Official Journal of the European Communities, a manufacturer applying this standard may assume compliance with the requirements of the Machinery Directive (the so-called presumption of conformity). This European Standard specifies requirements for the design and manufacture of bowl cutters used when stationary and positioned on the floor or on a table. Bowl cutters are food machines used to process fresh or frozen meat, meat products, fish and vegetables in a rotating bowl. This is performed by means of vertical blades rotating around a nearly horizontal axis. This European Standard deals with all significant hazards, hazardous situations and events relevant to rotating bowl cutters, when they are used as intended and under conditions of misuse which are reasonably foreseeable by the manufacturer. This European Standard deals with the hazards which can arise during commissioning, operation, cleaning, use, maintenance and decommissioning of the machines. This standard does not cover household bowl cutters.
