DIN EN 15908
Anaesthetic and respiratory equipment - Non-interchangeable screw-threaded (NIST) low-pressure connectors for medical gases; German version EN 15908:2010
Anästhesie- und Beatmungsgeräte - Nichtverwechselbare Verbindungsstücke mit Schraubgewinde (NIST) für niedrigen Druck zur Verwendung mit medizinischen Gasen; Deutsche Fassung EN 15908:2010
Overview
This standard specifies the dimensions and the allocation of non-interchangeable screw-threaded (NIST) connectors intended to be used at nominal operating pressures not greater than 1 400 kPa. The aim of the specifications is to assure that the medical gas is administered to the patient by using gas-specific connectors. The specifications have mainly been taken from the standard DIN EN ISO 5359:2008-11 "Low-pressure hose assemblies for use with medical gases" (ISO 5359:2008). With respect to the specifications for NIST connectors in DIN EN ISO 5359:2008, connector B11 has been allocated to carbon dioxide and connector C19 to carbon dioxide/oxygen mixtures. DIN EN ISO 5359:2008-11 also contains specifications for diameter-indexed safety systems (DISS) and sleeve-indexed systems (SIS). The aforementioned systems have their origins in the USA and Australia, respectively, and are not used in Europe. The Technical Committees ISO/TC 121 "Anaesthetic and respiratory equipment" and CEN/TC 215, respectively, which are responsible for the standard EN ISO 5359:2008, have decided to include NIST connectors used exclusively in Europe in a separate European standard. The revision of EN ISO 5359 is therefore being prepared. The standard has been prepared by CEN/TC 215 "Respiratory and anaesthetic equipment" (secretariat: BSI, United Kingdom) with the participation of German experts. The responsible Working Committee is NA 053-03-06 AA "Zentrale Gasversorgungsanlagen" ("Central gas distribution plants") at NARK.
