Overview

This DIN SPEC describes measurement techniques for the evaluation of tribological performance of sliding contacts on a scale between a few nanometres (nm) and 10 µm. It provides guidance for undertaking these measurements. Furthermore, it provides guidance on the effect of the parameters on the test results. This DIN SPEC covers techniques where the applied load is between 50 µN and 100 mN. This DIN SPEC does not cover existing Scanning Probe Microscopy techniques, such as frictional force microscopy and atomic force microscopy. The DIN SPEC is directed at test laboratories. It provides a comprehensive overview of current techniques for nanotribology measurements and provides guidance for their application. The committee responsible for this standard is NA 062-08-17-02 UA "Prüfverfahren" ("Test methods") of Working Committee "Nanotechnologies" at DIN.
