Cooperation between TU Berlin and DIN

The significance of standardisation and its relevance for business and society is anchored in both German standardisation strategy as well as in the concept underpinning the standardisation policies of the German Federal Government. To attain the set goals – such as boosting competitiveness, supporting the sustainability targets of the Federal Government as well as the implementation of innovation and research results through standardisation – integration in the higher education sector as well as in training and education at an early stage is called for.
In 2008, the President of the Technische Universität Berlin, Prof. Dr. Kurt Kutzler, and Chairman of the Board of DIN, Dr.-Ing. Torsten Bahke, signed an agreement laying out the framework for their future cooperation in research and teaching in the context of a strategic partnership.
The focus at the beginning of the cooperation was on the future oriented fields of information and communication, transport and mobility, water, energy, safety and services along with production systems.
The subject of logistics has become established as a new activity in the collaboration between TU Berlin and DIN. Standardisation can help to shape logistics processes efficiently and cost effectively.
The aim of DIN and TU Berlin is to anchor standardisation aspects more firmly in research and technology funding, sensitise researchers to this, increase standardisation knowledge at universities as well as even closer cooperation in order to further optimise knowledge accumulation and exchange.

Cooperation between VDI and DIN

A closer collaboration between DIN and VDI is aimed for as part of a joint cooperation. To this end, a regular exchange between the committee advisors of VDI and DIN should initially be established, so as to optimise the information transfer between experts in a further step. This includes reciprocal instruction and integration about activities and projects, e.g. the commentary of standardisation or directive projects and drafts. Regular coordination rounds along with joint events are in place for this.

By joining the CampusCluster Logisitk, led by the FIR e. V. at RWTH Aachen DIN implements its effort to establish standardisation at an early stage in research and education. Partners settled in various stages of the logistic chain cooperate in CampusCluster Logistik in joint projects to identify future challenges and to develop solutions in the logistics environment.
