Zero Defects Manufacturing Platform

The goal of the ZDMP project was the realization of a manufacturing process that does not produce a single faulty part. To achieve this goal, a platform was created that monitors machines and components through a variety of sensors and the combination of various information so that errors can be anticipated and avoided. This ZDMP platform is not only be used for zero-defect manufacturing, but also serve as an open, extensible interface for additional programs that can be offered in its own business-to-business app store.

To enable the greatest possible interoperability, an open source and an open development approach were pursued, which enable other developers to develop their own extensions using a so-called ZDMP SDK (Software Development Kit) and to offer them on the ZDMP platform.

The ZDMP project was based on the techniques and experiences of the previous projects vf-OS (Virtual Factory - Operational System), CREMA (Cloud-based Rapid Elastic Manufacturing) and C2NET (Cloud Collaborative Manufacturing Networks) and was in constant communication with the parallel funded projects eFactory and QU4LITY.

DIN identified standardisation needs and potentials within the ZDMP project and was responsible for the resulting standardisation activities.

Project results

One resulting standardisation activity was the CWA 17918 Zero Defects Manufacturing - Vocabulary, which was developed with the project partners and published in 2022.The CWA 17918 forms the basis for a ZDM ontology that is based on the Industrial Ontology Foundry (IOF).

The approaches of the ZDMP project will also be pursued in the follow-up project ZDZW.

The basic principles for ZDM will be defined in the CEN/CENELC workshop ZDM Basic Principles and Requirements.
