Steering gears for vessels - Part 3: Detail standard for surface vessels; Text in German and English
Ruderantriebsanlagen für Wasserfahrzeuge - Teil 3: Bauartnorm für Überwasserfahrzeuge; Text Deutsch und Englisch
Overview
This detail specification applies to steering gears for surface vessels in connection with VG 85741-2. The general technical-organizational requirements are documented in this detail specification. The requirements for the drive form an essential clause. Every surface vessel - irrespective of the number of rudders - shall be equipped with at least one main and one reserve rudder motor drive per rudder motor. The steering gears belong to the most important systems for operating a surface vessel; absolute functional reliability of the system is the highest principle. For this reason an auxiliary steering gear power unit is required for each steering gear. The auxiliary steering gear power unit shall be designed as a function of the drive concept of the ship propulsion system. Other requirements such as, for example, surface protection, marking, installation of pipes and hose assemblies, electrical cables, electric cabinets, including the rudder motor output and others, are given. Indicators and monitoring (such as, for example, acoustic alarm, signal lights, measuring devices, etcetera) are shown in a table. The requirements for tests, type tests, detail approval and also the validity of approval are provided in other clauses. The corresponding operating rules (Technical Rules for German Naval Vessels and Technical Specifications (TS)) are also taken into consideration. This standard has been prepared by the DIN Shipbuilding and Marine Technology Standards Committee (NSMT), Technical Committee NA 132-02-01 AA "Leistungserzeugung, Vortrieb, Hilfsmaschinen" ("Power generation, Propulsion, Auxiliary engine").
