Shipbuilding and marine structures - Mooring winches (ISO 3730:2012)
Schiffbau und Meerestechnik - Verholwinden (Mooringwinden) (ISO 3730:2012)
Overview
This International Standard specifies requirements for the design, operation, performance and acceptance tests of automatic and non-automatic mooring winches, with hydraulic, electric or steam drive, which fulfil the functions of manoeuvring, holding and storing mooring ropes on so-called drums. This document also lists the operations of non-automatic and fully automatic mooring winches. It provides general requirements in terms of the different possible designs, for example left-hand single drum winch or right-hand multiple drum winch, such as material stresses, strength requirements, maximum torque of prime mover and the winch holding load. This document also describes an automatic braking system for the winches. An essential aspect are the performance specifications, such as drum load, holding load, recovery and rendering load of the mooring winches. Due to safety-related reasons, mooring winches are subject to acceptance tests, that means, type tests and individual tests shall be carried out after mooring winches are assembled by the manufacturer. The required tests also include the functions of the breaking system and the operation under load. The performance specifications are listed in a table. ISO 3730 has been prepared by Technical Committee ISO/TC 8/SC 4 "Shipbuilding and marine structures, Outfitting and deck machinery". The German body involved in the preparation was committee NA 132-02-01 AA "Leistungserzeugung, Vortrieb, Hilfsmaschinen" ("Power generation, Propulsion, Auxiliary engine") of the Shipbuilding and Marine Technology Standards Committee (NMST) in collaboration with committee NA 060-22-10 AA "Lenkungsausschuss Krane" ("Steering Committee Cranes") of the Mechanical Engineering Standards Committee (NAM) at DIN.
