Overview
The standard applies for 3-strand hawser-laid 4-strand shroud-laid ropes, 8-strand braided ropes and 12-strand braided ropes for general service made of polypropylene. It contains the technical requirements, information for the required physical properties and the designation rules. The range of rope reference numbers covers 4 to 160. These values correspond approximately to the respective diameter, in millimetres. This standard differs from the previous edition as follows: a new type T 12-strand braided rope has been added. The tabular values for the minimum breaking forces have been modified and divided up into minimum breaking forces for unspliced ropes and minimum breaking forces for ropes with eye-spliced terminations. Reference numbers 18, 22 and 26 have been deleted and reference number 12 has been added for 8-strand and 12-strand braided polyester ropes. In addition, the formulas have been added to determine the reference number of the rope at given minimum breaking force. This standard has been prepared by Working Group WG 3 "Ropes and agricultural twines and fishing nets" (secretariat: France) of Technical Committee CEN/TC 248 "Textiles and textile products" (secretariat: United Kingdom). Working Committee NA 132-01-08 AA "Faserseile" ("Fibre ropes") is responsible for the national work.
