Overview
This European Standard specifies the minimum requirements, test methods, marking and information supplied by the manufacturer for ventilated and non-ventilated gas-tight chemical protective suits. This standard serves as a basis for the marketing of chemical protective suits under Directive 89/686/EEC for personal protective equipment. The purpose of this standard is to establish a uniform level of safety. Possible users of this standard are testing institutes, certification bodies and manufacturers. This standard has been prepared under a mandate given to CEN by the European Commission and the European Free Trade Association and supports basic requirements of the EU directives. This standard has been prepared by Technical Committee CEN/TC 162 "Protective clothing including hand and arm protection and lifejackets", the secretariat of which is held by DIN. The responsible German standardization committee is Working Committee NA 075-05-03 AA "Schutzkleidung gegen Chemikalien und radioaktive Kontamination" ("Protective clothing against chemicals and radioactive contamination") at DIN Standards Committee Personal Protective Equipment (NPS).
