Vehicles carrying tools and gears - Part 21: GW-L1 for logistic tasks
Rüstwagen und Gerätewagen - Teil 21: Gerätewagen Logistik GW-L1
Overview
In connection with fire fighting operations, GW-L1 for logistic tasks is primarily used for transport of equipment and other materials. According to the definition, GW-L1 is a fire-fighting vehicle with fire-fighting equipment and a loading area with a hydraulic platform for the transport of small amounts of equipment, extinguishing media and other goods to supply the fire brigade units employed (for various logistic tasks), the crew of which consists of a fire fighting troop (1/1) or a fire fighting squad (1/5). The fire fighting equipment to be transported is usually stored in roll containers or similar small load carriers. The transport tasks of small amounts of hazardous goods equipment and thus the tasks of the former hazardous material vehicle GW-G1 can be taken over by GW-L1 for logistic tasks when using the appliance set for hazardous material in accordance with DIN 14800-19 (standard under preparation). The standard DIN 14555-14:1997-10, "Vehicles carrying tools and gears - Part 14: GW-G1 for hazardous materials", which had been withdrawn in January 2004, has already been replaced by the April 2005 edition DIN 14555-21. In order to adopt GW-L1 for logistic tasks to the current state of the art, the following modifications have been made with respect to DIN 14555-21:2010-06: a) the foreword has been reformulated; b) vehicle mass requirements have been defined more precisely; c) the maximum speed of GW-L1 has been limited to 100 km/h; d) regarding the loading area, the usable loading area length has been newly defined, the requirements regarding the securing of the load with a locking strip in the form of a lashing rail with mounting options have been added, the stability of the front wall has been defined more precisely, the number of the roll containers or similar small load carriers to be loaded onto the loading surface has been reduced from six to at least four; e) for box bodies, the requirements for the accessible opening for removal of devices have been specified more precisely; f) for the loading platform, the requirements for a clearly visible and permanently fixed load centre and the design of the anti-roll safety device for reel diameters up to 200 mm have been added; g) the standard loading in accordance with Table 1 has been revised; h) the additional load of equipment module "Hazardous products" in former Table 2 has been removed from the standard and transferred to DIN 14800-19 (standard under preparation); j) reference is made to standard series DIN 14800 for additional load modules of fire fighting equipment; k) the standard content including the bibliography has been editorially revised and added in the normative references DIN 14800-19 (standard under preparation) and DIN EN 12642:2007-01. The committee responsible for this standard is NA 031-04-07 AA "Sonstige Fahrzeuge" ("Other vehicles") at DIN.
