Overview
This standard specifies requirements for the substrates, the thickness of the enamel coating, as well as the functional and aesthetic characteristics of coatings applied to plain steel, for use as writing surfaces (whiteboards and chalkboards). Adherence, wear and impact resistance, scratch hardness and resistance, flatness and chemical resistance are stipulated as functional characteristics of enamel coatings. Further specifications concern colour, gloss, appearance, writability and resistance of the enamel surface to graffiti.
The standard has been prepared by Technical Committee ISO/TC 107 "Metallic and other inorganic coatings", in collaboration with Technical Committee CEN/TC 262 "Metallic and other inorganic coatings", the secretariat of which is held by BSI (United Kingdom). The responsible German Committee is Working Committee NA 062-01-63 AA "Prüfung von Emails and Emaillierungen" ("Testing of vitreous and porcelain enamels") at NMP.
