Prevention of hydrogen-induced brittle fracture of high-strength steel building elements - Part 2: Test methods

Title (German)

Vermeidung fertigungsbedingter wasserstoffinduzierter Sprödbruche bei hochfesten Bauteilen aus Stahl - Teil 2: Prüfungen

Overview

In the context of this standard, the terms production-related hydrogen-induced cracking or hydrogen-induced brittle fracture are understood as a material damage which can occur as a result of diffusion of atomic hydrogen in the material. This damage can be triggered by a critical combination of different influencing quantities, which are described in more detail in DIN 50969-1. This standard specifies methods for assessment of the potential risk of hydrogen and for verification of an existent brittle fracture hazard for coatings and hot dip galvanising on high-strength steel building elements. This standard does not apply for building elements made of high-strength strip materials manufactured in a strip coating process. The standard has been prepared by Working Committee NA 062-01-76 AA "Galvanische Überzüge" ("Electrodeposited coatings") of the Materials Testing Standards Committee (NMP).
