Installations for separation of light liquids - Part 100: Application provisions for installations for separation of light liquids in accordance with DIN EN 858-1 and DIN EN 858-2
Abscheideranlagen für Leichtflüssigkeiten - Teil 100: Anwendungsbestimmungen für Abscheideranlagen für Leichtflüssigkeiten nach DIN EN 858-1 und DIN EN 858-2
Overview
In the course of the preparation of EN 858-1 and EN 858-2 it was not possible to standardize all specifications for separator systems for light liquids in all CEN member countries. These requirements, which were not included in the European Standards, remain valid for the time being on the basis of the corresponding provisions of building, statute and water law. The specifications required for Germany have now been described in the present national Supplementary Standard DIN 1999-100. This means that DIN EN 858-1, DIN EN 858-2 and DIN 1999-100 shall be applied together in order to maintain the previous safety level. Light fluids within the meaning of this standard also include mixtures of light fluids and biodiesel according to DIN EN 14214 and biofuel oil according to DIN EN 14213 with biodiesel or biofuel oil contents of up to 100 % (V/V). For these light liquids, this standard applies together with DIN 1999-101. Light liquids within the meaning of this standard are also light liquids according to DIN EN 858-1 with an admixture of up to 10 % (V/V) ethanol. The standard specifies additional provisions for the following aspects for the application of separator systems for light liquids: Chemical resistance of materials and watertightness of concrete, construction principles with respect to manholes and covers for in-ground and free-standing separator systems within buildings, accessibility, pipe connections, sludge traps, sampling manholes and devices, automatic warning and closing devices, factory-made and retrofitted cable glands (including replacement or modification of cables), dimensions and tolerances, coatings/linings, and electrical equipment, but also on load-bearing capacity and serviceability, fire protection, testing of the watertightness of concrete and automatic closure devices, and on labeling and product information. The dimensioning includes additional information on sludge trap volume, vehicle washing systems, rainwater runoff and area determination in the event of driving rain. A great deal of space is devoted to aspects of planning, installation and connection to the drainage system (installation site, pipe connections, free-standing installation of separators, parallel installation of separators on site, separate collection tanks for light liquids, protection against backwater, separators in areas at risk of flooding) and operation, self-monitoring, maintenance, emptying and general inspection of the separator system (including operating log and taking of wastewater samples). Due to the functional importance of the leak tightness of separator systems, a separate annex is dedicated to their testing, in which requirements for the standard case testing and testing equipment, preparation, execution as well as for the testing of old systems and testing in the presence of special conditions are specified. Numerous queries from the scientific community prompted the committee to include further annexes for calculation examples for the required superelevation as well as positioning with regard to bioethanol in wastewater. This standard has been prepared by Working Committee NA 119-05-05 AA "Abscheider" ("Separators") at DIN Standards Committee Water Practice (NAW).
