Terms in the field of radiological technique - Part 3: Dosimetry
Begriffe in der radiologischen Technik - Teil 3: Dosimetrie
Overview
The standard contains terms and definitions for dosimetry within the scope of therapeutic and diagnostic applications of ionizing radiation as well as radiation protection. In the present revised version of DIN 6814-3, ICRU Report 85a forms the basis for the general dose terms. For the RADIATION WEIGHTING FACTORS wR and TISSUE WEIGHTING FACTORS wT, the values according to the currently valid Radiation Protection Ordinance and the X-ray Ordinance are given in this edition of the standard as before, as well as, in addition, the values based on more recent radiobiological findings according to the recommendations in Publication 103 of the International Commission on Radiological Protection. The terms "characteristic absorbed dose to water rate", "characteristic air kerma rate" and "air kerma strength", which are important in dosimetry for PHOTONEN-BRACHYTHERAPY as calibration quantities of radiators have been included. The dose terms for radiation protection have been fundamentally revised. The general term "equivalent dose," absorbed dose weighted by a weighting factor based on radiation biology, has been introduced as a generic term for all dose quantities commonly used in radiation protection. A section is devoted to the body-related dose terms, the "body dose equivalent" and the terms "organ dose equivalent" and "effective dose" combined therein. Furthermore, the measurement quantities used for local and personal dosimetry, whose basic term H = Q×D is referred to as "measured dose equivalent" to distinguish it from the generic term "dose equivalent", are included in the standard. Dosimetry of non-ionizing RADIATIONS is not included in the scope of this standard. The standard has been prepared at Working Committee NA 080-00-01 AA "Dosimetrie" ("Dosimetry") of DIN Standards Committee Radiology (NAR).
