DIN 50929-3 Beiblatt 1
Corrosion of metals - Probability of corrosion of metallic materials when subject to corrosion from the outside - Part 3: Buried and underwater pipelines and structural components; Supplement 1: Corrosion rates of structural components in water

Title (German)

Korrosion der Metalle - Korrosionswahrscheinlichkeit metallischer Werkstoffe bei äußerer Korrosionsbelastung - Teil 3: Rohrleitungen und Bauteile in Böden und Wässern; Beiblatt 1: Korrosionsraten von Bauteilen in Gewässern

Overview

Purpose of DIN 50929-3 Supplement 1 is to derive the expected rusting from the water aggressiveness (total rating) determined in accordance with 6.1.1 or Table 1 of DIN 50929-3:1985-09. This allows an estimation of the time to failure and the service life of a mild steel structure or component. It has proven beneficial to include into corrosivity the oxygen content of the immersion medium in addition to the water aggressiveness. The proposed corrosion rates are to be applied to shore reinforcement (sheet piling) structures for the types of water systems to be found in Germany. The rusting will not proceed uniformly in the downward direction and will thereby create different rusting zones. In detail, corrosions rates are distinguished for splash zone (SZ), low water zone (LWZ) and under water zone (UWZ). According to experience, the value of the under water zone (UWZ) can be used for the intermediate zone (IZ). This Supplementary has been prepared by NA 062-01-71 AA "Korrosion und Korrosionsschutz" ("Corrosion and corrosion protection") of the Materials Testing Standards Committee (NMP). It supplements DIN 50929-3 with these results.
