DIN 54457
Structural adhesives - Testing of adhesively bonded joints - Bead peel test
Strukturklebstoffe - Prüfung von Klebverbindungen - Raupenschälprüfung
Overview
This standard specifies a method for evaluation of adhesion of coatings with a minimum elongation at break 100 % and a modulus of elasticity of 10 MPa maximum on various substrates. This way, the influence of various coatings or surface pre-treatments of the adherent materials on adhesion can be compared. The standard can also be applied to assess the influence of adhesive or underground on the long-term resistance of the bond. An examination of the adhesion in accordance with this standard can also be recommended for production-accompanying process control. During the execution of the test, adhesive beads are applied on substrates which are peeled after curing and a possible subsequent climate resistance test. If ageing is carried out, the individual steps are successively followed, whereby one section is further peeled off prior to ageing and after each ageing step. Afterwards, the fracture pattern is determined. The committee responsible for this standard is NA 062-04-55 AA "Prüfung von Konstruktionsklebstoffen, -klebverbindungen und Kernverbunden" ("Testing of structural adhesives, structural adhesive bondings and sandwiches") at DIN.
