This document has been prepared by Joint Working Committee NA 062-03-32 GA "Bitumen; Prüfverfahren und Anforderungen für die Bindemittel" ("Bitumen; test methods and specifications of binders") at the Materials Testing Standards Committee (NMP) and the Building and Civil Engineering Standards Committee (NABau) at DIN. This document specifies a method for the determination of the content of those portions of bitumen, fresh or recovered from asphalt or bituminous binders, which are dispersed in bitumen and are not soluble in cyclohexane under the conditions of this standard. The insoluble content indicates the presence of accompanying or foreign substances in bitumen. Furthermore, the method permits the identification of changes due to thermal or oxidative impacts which can occur in bitumen during storage or further processing. These conclusions are only possible to a limited extent for bitumen recovered from asphalt.
