Atomic absorption spectrometry (AAS) - Vocabulary
Atomabsorptionsspektrometrie (AAS) - Begriffe
Overview
This document has been prepared by Working Committee NA 062-08-15 AA "Grundlagen der analytischen Atomspektroskopie" ("Basic principles of analytical atomic spectroscopy") of the Material Testing Standards Committee (NMP). This standard specifies the vocabulary for analytical methods where the detection of elements and the determination of their content are conducted by measuring the atomic absorption of optical radiation. The aim of this basic standard is to identify and define the vocabulary used in atomic absorption spectrometry (AAS), and to differentiate it, so that it can also potentially be adopted and quoted by other sections. This will also facilitate and unify the preparation of special AAS test standards. At the same time it has been considered useful to also incorporate the appropriate English and French designations into the standard. Vocabulary which is specifically applicable to spectral radiation measurement is specified in the DIN 5030 and DIN 5031 standard series. Further basic spectral-analytical vocabulary is contained in DIN 51009 "Optische Atomspektralanalyse - Allgemeine Grundlagen und Begriffe" ("Optical atomic spectral analysis - Principles and definitions"). Partially related techniques are addressed in the standard DIN 51008-2 "Optische Emissionsspektralanalyse (OES) - System mit Flammen und Plasmen" ("Optical Emission Spectrometry (OES) - Part 2: Terms for flame and plasma systems"). Explanatory supplements for this standard are compiled in Supplement 1 to DIN 51401-1.
