Testing of liquid fuels - Determination of ignition quality (cetane number) of Diesel fuels with the BASF-engine
Prüfung flüssiger Kraftstoffe - Bestimmung der Zündwilligkeit (Cetanzahl) von Dieselkraftstoffen mit dem BASF-Prüfmotor
Overview
This document has been prepared by Working Committee NA 062-06-43 AA "Motorische Prüfung von flüssigen Kraftstoffen" ("Engine testing of liquid fuels") of Fachausschuss Mineralöl und Brennstoffnormung (FAM) (Standardization Committee for petroleum, fuels, lubricants and related products (FAM)) of Standards Committee Materialprüfung (NMP). This document specifies a test method to determine the ignition quality in the BASF-engine. It applies to fossil fuels and fuels of biological origin, hereinafter referred to as diesel fuel, which can be used in self-igniting internal combustion engines. The method described in this standard is intended for the testing of diesel fuels in terms of their ignition quality under standard conditions, as ignition quality is a significant property to determine the suitability of a type of diesel fuel for motors. The measurement result for ignition quality is reported as the cetane number.
