DIN Standards Committee Materials Testing
Non-destructive testing - Testing of welded joints with active thermography - Inductive and laser thermography methods
Abstract
This document specifies the use of laser-excited and inductively excited thermography to detect surface inhomogeneities in welded joints. The test methods are applicable to metallic materials. The test methods are suitable for detecting irregularities on the tested surface, such as cracks. The document applies to accessible joints with simple geometry such as in plates, pipes and containers. For the testing of welded joints with more complex geometry (e.g. the testing of corner joints), this document provides guidance. This document specifies the requirements for the testing technology and describes the application of the two thermographic methods for the detection and characterization of irregularities in welded joints.
