Aerospace series - Test method for metallic materials - Ultrasonic inspection of bars, plates, forging stock and forgings - Part 3: Reference blocks; German and English version EN 4050-3:2012
Luft- und Raumfahrt - Prüfverfahren für metallische Werkstoffe - Ultraschallprüfung von Stangen, Platten, Schmiedevormaterial und Schmiedestücken - Teil 3: Referenzblöcke; Deutsche und Englische Fassung EN 4050-3:2012
Overview
This standard specifies the requirements for the manufacture, checking and marking of the series of ultrasonic testing reference blocks containing flat bottom holes (FBH) which define the indicated defect size to which reference is made in EN standards. The application of ultrasonic testing reference blocks containing side-drilled holes (SDH) which define an indicated defect size shall be agreed between manufacturer and purchaser. This standard is applicable to the production of master and standard test blocks to be used when carrying out ultrasonic inspection to the requirements of EN 4050-1 (FBH method). It is recognised that particular difficulties are encountered with round forging stock and bars due to the wide range of curvatures. For this application, only one block shall be produced to act as both master and standard test block. The European Committee for Standardization (CEN) declared the Aerospace and Defence Industries Association of Europe (ASD-STAN) responsible for the preparation of European standards (EN) for the field of aerospace. ASD became the associated body (ASB) of CEN by the agreement dated 1986-10-03. The standard EN 4050-3:2011 has been prepared by ASD-STAN, Technical Section Metallic Materials, with the participation of German experts of the Aerospace Standards Committee. The responsible German standardization committee is Working Committee NA 131-01-01 AA "Stähle" ("Steels") of the Aerospace Standards Committee at DIN. According to Resolution 57/9 of Technical Committee of the advisory board of the Aerospace Standards Committee (NL) at DIN, the German Institute for Standardization, the European space industry standardization results shall be adopted into the German body of standards in both languages, German and English. Therefore, the English version is added to this German version of the EN standard.
