Aerospace series - Connectors, optical, circular, single and multipin, coupled by triple start threaded ring - Flush contacts - Part 001: Technical specification; German and English version EN 4531-001:2012
Luft- und Raumfahrt - Optische Rundsteckverbinder mit dreigängiger Schraubkupplung - Bündige Kontakte - Teil 001: Technische Lieferbedingungen; Deutsche und Englische Fassung EN 4531-001:2012
Overview
The standard series DIN EN 4531 describes the characteristics of single and multipin optical circular connectors, coupled by triple start threaded ring and flush contacts for aerospace applications. The fibre optic connectors of this family are derived from MIL-DTL-38999L series III and EN 3645-001. They are suitable for use on aerospace onboard applications. They provide easy access for optical contact end face cleaning. The optical contacts are capable of accepting single cable sizes up to a maximum of 1,9 mm outside diameter. This edition of the revised Part 001 specifies the general characteristics, the conditions for qualification, acceptance and quality assurance, as well as the test programs and groups for threaded ring coupling circular fibre optic selflocking connectors, fire-resistant or non fire-resistant, intended for use in a temperature range from -65 °C to +150 °C (cable dependent) continuous. This publication supersedes DIN EN 4531-001:2008-04. The following modifications have been made with respect to the previous document: a) the MIL standard referred to is MIL-DTL-38999 series III; b) the optical contacts are only intended for single cable sizes up to a maximum of 1,9 mm outside diameter; c) the normative references have been revised; d) the reference to accessories for connectors in EN 4531-002 has been deleted; e) alignment sleeves for the female contacts as well as a sleeve force test in accordance with IEC 61300-3-33 are specified; f) the clauses for the male and female contacts under 6.2 and 6.3 have been exchanged and revised. Dimensions and tolerances have been partly changed. The drawings have been revised. Tables 1 and 2 remained in the previous clauses; g) the numbering of the figures and tables in the entire document have been changed due to the modifications; h) the previous clause 6.4 has been replaced by a new clause 6.4 "Coupling contact conditions"; i) with regard to the previous clause 6.5.1, only a reference is made to EN 3645-001; j) the previous clause 6.5.2 has become 6.6 and has been revised. In part, only reference to EN 3645-001 is made; k) the previous clause 6.5.3 has become 6.7 and has been revised. Contact arrangements (from 6 optical channels), dimensions and tolerances have been modified; l) the tests in clause 7 have been revised and adapted to the previous modifications. Individual tests have been deleted; m) the references for the reference fluids in 7.2 have been replaced by EN 3909; n) in 8.2.3 a minimum length has been specified for the length of the cables to be used; o) a specification for the material test in accordance with EN 2591-6306 or MIL-STD-454N has been incorporated. The test groups have been partly changed by incorporation of other tests or elimination of tests; p) the table in 8.2.5 has been revised in accordance with the previous modifications; q) references to tables in EN 4531-002 have been incorporated for the designation and marking in clause 9. The marking of the optical contact has been modified and extended by two digits; r) clause 10 "Packaging" and clause 11 "Storage" have been incorporated. The standard series EN 4531 has been prepared by ASD-STAN, Technical Section Electrics, Avionics, with the participation of German experts of the Aerospace Standards Committee. The European Committee for Standardization (CEN) declared the Aerospace and Defence Industries Association of Europe (ASD-STAN) responsible for the preparation of European standards (EN) for the field of aerospace. ASD became the associated body (ASB) of CEN by the agreement dated 1986-10-03. The responsible German standardization committee is Working Committee NA 131-04-10 AA "LWL und LWL-Komponenten" ("LWL and LWL-components") of the Aerospace Standards Committee at DIN.
