Hydraulic balancing of heating, cooling and ventilation systems - Part 4: Temperature-based alternatives to hydraulic balancing
Abstract
This document defines procedures and methods for the hydraulic optimization of heating, cooling and ventilation systems based on temperature measurements (possibly in combination with other variables/information). It establishes a classification of such temperature-based approaches regarding essential characteristics. This document is applicable to a technically correct dimensioned and constructed hydraulic system from generation to transfer (including piping, heat transfer equipment, storage tanks, valves, pumps, heat exchangers, etc.). This document is also applicable to water-based heating systems, including the heating water side of air heating/air-conditioning systems and to systems that use water without admixtures as a heat transfer medium. This document does not provide a quantitative assessment of the effectiveness of temperature-based optimization approaches - e.g. evaluation of the energy saving potential compared to the hydraulically unregulated state - and no classification of effectiveness in the context of conventional hydraulic balancing on the basis of calculation values.
