Furniture - General guidelines about measurement uncertainty
Abstract
Scope of this document is to provide a guideline and examples of how to express information concerning measurement uncertainty in standards including: - test results, - requirements, - tolerances. The experts are recommended to use this guideline when drafting standards about test methods and conformity assessment of furniture products. In fact in the standards drafted by CEN/TC 207 the dimensional and mechanical aspects of products are measured, and the physical quantities involved are for example: forces, masses, dimensions, angles, velocities and time. Results of testing are quantities, levels, or pass/fail statements. This document clarifies how to deal with measurement uncertainties for tolerances specified by the test method and for test results when they are expressed as quantities or discrete levels (e.g. in tests on surface finishes
