Grease separators - Part 100: Application provisions for grease separators in accordance with DIN EN 1825-1 and DIN EN 1825-2
Abscheideranlagen für Fette - Teil 100: Anwendungsbestimmungen für Abscheideranlagen für Fette nach DIN EN 1825-1 und DIN EN 1825-2
Overview
In the course of the preparation of EN 1825-1 and EN 1825-2 it was not possible to standardize all of the specifications for grease separators in all of the CEN member countries. These requirements that have not been included in the European standards remain valid for the time being on the basis of corresponding building, statutory and water law provisions. The specifications required for Germany have now been described in the present national supplementary standard DIN 4040-100. This means that DIN EN 1825-1, DIN EN 1825-2 and DIN 4040-100 shall be applied together in order to maintain the previous safety level. The standard specifies additional provisions for the application of grease separators for the following aspects: chemical resistance of materials and watertightness of concrete, construction principles with regard to manholes and covers for underground and free-standing separator systems inside buildings, accessibility, inlet and outlet connections, sludge traps, sampling chambers and equipment, factory-made and retrofitted cable penetrations (including replacement or modification of cables), dimensions and limit sizes, coatings/linings, and electrical equipment, but also load-bearing capacity and serviceability, fire protection, tests of the watertightness of the concrete and automatic closure devices, and on labelling and product information. The design includes additional information on sludge trap volume, vehicle washing systems, rainwater runoff and surface calculation in the event of driving rain. A great deal of space is devoted to aspects of planning, installation and connection to the drainage system (installation site, pipe connections, free-standing installation of separators, parallel installation of separators on site, separate collection tanks for light liquids, protection against backwater, separators in areas at risk of flooding) and operation, self-monitoring, maintenance, emptying and general inspection of the separator system (including operating log and taking wastewater samples). Due to the functional importance of the leak tightness of separator systems a separate annex is dedicated to their testing, in which requirements for the standard case test and testing equipment, preparation, execution as well as for testing in the presence of special conditions are specified. Numerous queries from audiences of experts prompted the committee to include an informative annex for areas of application of grease separators. This standard has been prepared by Working Committee NA 119-05-05 AA "Abscheider" ("Separators") at DIN Standards Committee Water Practice (NAW).
