Soil quality - Physical laboratory tests - Part 9: Determination of the saturated hydraulic water conductivity in the cylindrical core-cutter
Bodenbeschaffenheit - Physikalische Laboruntersuchungen - Teil 9: Bestimmung der Wasserdurchlässigkeit in wassergesättigten Stechzylinderbodenproben
Overview
This standard specifies a method for determination of saturated hydraulic water conductivity in cylindrical core-cutter samples. The hydraulic conductivity of a water saturated soil is dependent on the size, shape and continuity of the cavities, the soil structure, the expression of secondary pores and the content of organic substance and can vary particularly significantly in inhomogeneous soils in accordance with the direction of flow. It is an important parameter for characterization of the water balance of a soil, for estimation of physical-chemical sorption processes, for assessment of the mechanical filter characteristics and for evaluation of the susceptibility to erosion as well as the drainability of soils. The method described in this standard is applicable for peat soils and mineral soils in horizons free of groundwater with low fractions of coarse soil. The committee responsible for this standard is NA 119-01-02-02 UA "Chemische und physikalische Verfahren" ("Chemical and physical methods") at DIN.
