DIN EN 997
WC pans and WC suites with integral trap: German version EN 997:2012
WC-Becken und WC-Anlagen mit angeformtem Geruchverschluss; Deutsche Fassung EN 997:2012
Overview
The basic aim of the revision of the standard was to harmonize and incorporate modifications in the technical field in response to the current market situation. The most significant modification was the optimization of the flushing requirements which had become necessary. As a result of intensive and costly examinations and additional round robin tests carried out by test laboratories and manufacturers of two sub-sectors of the sanitary industry, sanitary ware and flushing cistern manufacturers, the impact force for test flushing cisterns and their calibration was introduced as another parameter in terms of the necessary specification of testing the flushing requirements in order to ensure the mutual interaction of two standardized products - WC pans and flushing cisterns. In this context, the requirements and tests for close-coupled suites and one-piece WC pans have been adjusted to the flushing cistern requirements in accordance with DIN EN 14055 and expanded accordingly. However, as in the case of DIN EN 15055, classification of the products with regard to specific applications had still to be maintained due to national specifications in certain countries. In the effort to achieve the required harmonization, reference was made to mandate M/110 "Sanitärausstattungsgegenstände" ("Sanitary appliances") given to CEN by the European Commission (EC) and the European Free Trade Association (EFTA). This standard supports the essential requirements of the EC Construction Products Council Directive (89/106/EEC). The products in accordance with this standard only correspond with the directive if they comply with the requirements set out in Annex ZA and are subjected to the conformity assessment procedures described in Annex ZA. Conformity with Annex ZA is indicated by means of the CE marking of the products. The standard has been prepared by CEN/TC 163/WG 3 "Closet bowls, flushing cisterns, urinals, bidets and kitchen sinks", under DIN leadership. The responsible German standardization committee is NA 119-05-18-01 UA "Waschtische, Sitzwaschbecken, Klosetts, Urinale" ("Sinks, bidets, WCs, urinals") of NAW, which was in constant contact with Committee NA 119-05-18-08 UA "Spülkästen" ("Flushing cisterns").
