DIN 19687
Soil quality - Percolation rate of water from the soil

Title (German)

Bodenbeschaffenheit - Berechnung der Sickerwasserrate aus dem Boden

Overview

DIN 19687 describes an empirical method for the determination of the water percolation rate from soil. The method is applicable to any climatic and soil conditions regarding location of the Federal Republic of Germany and the validity of its results has been checked against independent measurement data of the depths of runoff of representative catchment areas. Therefore it allows for nationwide assessment of the water percolation rate from soil in the long-time average. Nevertheless, methodical approaches which are based on detailed, site-specific measurement results shall be preferred due to their higher accuracy in case of their practicability. The method in this standard replaces the method documented in DIN 19687:1998-05, the scope of which was limited to annual precipitation values of 1 000 mm maximum and annual potential evapotranspiration values between 300 mm to 700 mm. The method has therefore been adapted to the new nationwide corrigendum of precipitation. Furthermore, regression equations for estimation of the mean duration of capillary rise have been added and the standard has been both technically and editorially updated. This standard has been prepared by Committee NA 119-01-02-03 UA "Standortbeurteilung" ("Site assessment").
