DIN EN 14516
Baths for domestic purposes; German version EN 14516:2015

Title (German)

Badewannen für den Hausgebrauch; Deutsche Fassung EN 14516:2015

Overview

The amendment of the EU Construction Products Directive (89/106/EEC) to the EU Construction Products Regulation (305/2011/EU) requires certain formal changes which shall be taken into account in the harmonized product specifications. This results in action consequences for the bathtub manufacturers. Bathtubs are used for personal hygiene, that is, preferably for bathing and completely cleaning the human body. Basically, bathtubs are equipped with a drain hole, with or without overflow and with or without tap holes. The different versions of bathtubs differ in terms of equipment and installation methods. A classification of bathtubs has been introduced due to various functional requirements in the member states. The draft standard relates to the two mandatory requirements of cleanability and durability. Cleanability are the properties which allow surfaces intended for contact with water to remain non-absorbent and visibly free of contamination and/or stains if they are subjected to maintenance which can involve, as far as appropriate, instructions for use and care. In contrast, durability is characterized by features of materials intended for contact with water and their surfaces, which allow the expected service life of the product. Using special test methods, these requirements for bathtubs, such as surface quality, drainage of water, resistance to temperature changes, chemicals and stain formers, surface resistance, stability of the floor, which are necessary to confirm their usability, are verified. CEN/TC 163 "Sanitary appliances" is aware that due to the new requirements for the manufacturers of sanitary appliances resulting from Regulation 305/2011/EU and the previously unsuccessful specifications of the relevant harmonized European standards, there was significant unrest and uncertainty among the actors was created on the market. At the initiative of the German delegation in CEN/TC 163, the short-term change or revision of all these standards, including EN 14516, was initiated. The content of the revision of this standard is the introduction of Clause "Dangerous substances", the modification of the marking of products, the replacement of Clause "Evaluation of conformity" by Clause 10 "Assessment and verification of constancy of performance - AVCP". NA 119-05-18-10 UA "Bade- und Duscheinrichtungen" ("Bath and shower installations") is responsible for the national mirroring of the work on this standard.
