Sanitary appliances - Wash basins - Functional requirements and test methods; German version EN 14688:2015
Sanitärausstattungsgegenstände - Waschbecken - Funktionsanforderungen und Prüfverfahren; Deutsche Fassung EN 14688:2015
Overview
The amendment of the EU Construction Products Directive (89/106/EEC) into the EU Construction Products Regulation (305/2011/EU) requires certain formal changes to be taken into account in the harmonised product specifications. This results in consequences for the manufacturers of wash basins. Wash basins are used for personal hygiene; that is, preferably for cleaning the upper parts of the body. Wash basins are generally equipped with one or more basins, each with a drain hole, with or without overflow and with or without tap holes. The various types of washbasins (including wall-hung, pedestal, console, corner, furniture and hand washbasins) differ in terms of the installation method. By means of special test methods the functional requirements for washbasins, such as static load capacity, water run-off, resistance to temperature changes as well as chemicals and staining agents, surface resistance, cleanability and overflow protection, which are necessary to confirm their suitability for use, are verified. CEN/TC 163 "Sanitary appliances" is aware that the new requirements for manufacturers of sanitary appliances resulting from Regulation 305/2011/EU and the previously non-compliant requirements of the relevant harmonized European standards have caused considerable unease and uncertainty among market players. At the initiative of the German delegation in CEN/TC 163, the short-term amendment or revision of all these standards, including EN 14688, was commenced. The content of the revision of this standard is the introduction of the term "product type", the introduction of the clause "Hazardous substances", the modification of the marking of products, the replacement of the clause "Conformity assessment" by "Assessment and verification of constancy of performance - AVCP" and the replacement of Annex ZA by the new Annex ZA in accordance with the provisions of Regulation 305/2011/EU. The committee NA 119-05-18-01 UA "Washing basins, bidets, lavatories, urinals" at DIN Standards Committee Water Practice (NAW) is responsible for the national mirroring of this work.
