Characterization of waste from high-temperature processes - Determination of biodegradable, landfill-relevant organic carbon (BOCcor)

Abstract

This standard specifies a method for determining the content of landfill-relevant total organic carbon in waste from high-temperature processes and landfill substitute building materials with waste from high-temperature processes. The basis is the dry incineration of solid waste in an oxygen stream to CO2 according to DIN EN 15936 (method A or B) to determine the total organic carbon, as well as the subtraction of the elemental carbon, which was determined after pyrolytic removal of the organic carbon at 850°C under inert gas conditions, followed by dry incineration in an oxygen stream to CO2 with contents of more than 1 g carbon per kg (0.1 % C) (per carbon type in the measurement sample). The landfill-relevant total organic carbon (BOCcor) obtained by subtraction forms the basis for the allocation of waste and landfill substitute building materials to landfills or landfill sections of class 0, I, II or III in accordance with the allocation values (Table 2, Annex 3) of the Landfill Ordinance (DepV).
