DIN EN 14986
Design of fans working in potentially explosive atmospheres; German version EN 14986:2017
Konstruktion von Ventilatoren für den Einsatz in explosionsgefährdeten Bereichen; Deutsche Fassung EN 14986:2017
Overview
DIN EN 14986:2017 describes the general requirements for fans for use in potentially explosive atmospheres. This European Standard is a type C standard as stated in EN ISO 12100. The machinery concerned and the extent to which hazards, hazardous situations and events are covered and indicated in the scope of this European Standard. When provisions of this type C standard are different from those, which are stated in type A or B standards, the provisions of this type C standard take precedence over the provisions of the other standards, for machines that have been designed and built according to the provisions of this type C standard. EN 14986 deals in particular with aspects of product safety. The draft has been prepared under a mandate given to CEN by the European Commission and the European Free Trade Association to provide a means of meeting the essential requirements of the New Approach Directive 2014/34/EU of 26 April 2014 on equipment and protective systems intended for use in potentially explosive atmospheres. This European Standard has been prepared by Technical Committee CEN/TC 305 "Potentially explosive atmospheres - Explosion prevention and protection", the secretariat of which is held by DIN. The responsible German committee is Working Committee NA 095-02-02 AA "Betriebsmittel zur Verwendung in explosionsfähigen Atmosphären" ("Equipment for use in potentially explosive atmospheres") at DIN Standards Committee Safety Design Principles (NASG).
