Explosive atmospheres - Part 34: Application of quality systems for equipment manufacture (ISO/IEC 80079-34:2011, modified); German version EN ISO/IEC 80079-34:2011
Explosionsgefährdete Bereiche - Teil 34: Anwendung von Qualitätsmanagementsystemen für die Herstellung von Geräten (ISO/IEC 80079-34:2011, modifiziert); Deutsche Fassung EN ISO/IEC 80079-34:2011
Overview
Subcommittee 31M was formed in 2007 under IEC/TC 31 with the responsibility to develop international standards for explosion-protected non-electrical equipment. ISO/IEC 80079-34, the first standard of the new standard series "Explosive atmospheres" based on the standard series IEC 60079, has been prepared by IEC/TC 31/SC 31M "Non-electrical equipment and protective systems for explosive atmospheres"; the national Mirror Committee is NA 095-02-06 AA "Terminologie, Methodik" ("Terminology and methodology"). In the future it shall replace DIN EN 13980 "Potentially explosive atmospheres - Application of quality systems" which has been published by CEN/TC 305. The purpose of DIN EN ISO/IEC 80079-34 is to ensure "good" and appropriate manufacturing practices for products for intended use in explosive atmospheres. This standard is a safety standard based on ISO 9001:2008 and shall be read in conjunction with it. Manufacturers' quality requirements are an integral part of most certification schemes. DIN EN ISO/IEC 80079-34 has been prepared with global unification of the requirements for quality systems for the manufacture of explosion-protected equipment and protective systems in mind. As a result, the two currently significant requirement systems, the European ATEX directive (Directive 94/9/EC, Annexes IV and VII) and the international IECEx Certification Scheme, are addressed. However, the standard is also suitable for application in other national or regional certification schemes for explosion-protected equipment. The scope of this standard includes quality systems for the manufacture of electrical and mechanical equipment, but also of autonomous protection systems limiting the effect of an incipient explosion to an acceptable level. For the first time a standard is being published which has been prepared by the IEC and mirrored by DIN.
