Overview
DIN EN 71-1 specifies requirements and test methods for mechanical and physical properties of toys. This European Standard applies to toys for children, toys being any product or material designed or clearly intended for use in play by children of less than 14 years. It applies to new toys taking into account the period of foreseeable and normal use, and that the toys are used as intended or in a foreseeable way, bearing in mind the normal behaviour of children. Furthermore, this standard includes specific requirements for toys intended for children under 36 months and for children who are too young to sit up unaided and specifies requirements for packaging, marking and labelling. This consolidated version of EN 71-1 includes Amendments A1:2007, A3:2006, A4:2007, A5:2007, A6:2007, A7:2009, A8:2009, A9:2009, A10:2010, A11:2010, A12:2010, A14:2010 and Corrigendum AC:2006. Amendments A1:2007, A3:2006, A4:2007, A5:2007, A6:2007, A7:2009, A8:2009, A9:2009 and Corrigendum AC:2006 were already contained in DIN EN 71-1:2009-10. EN 71-1:2011 has been prepared by Technical Committee CEN/TC 52 "Safety of toys", the secretariat of which is held by DS (Denmark). The responsible German Mirror Committee is Working Committee NA 095-05-01 AA "Sicherheit von Spielzeug - Mechanische und physikalische Eigenschaften" ("Safety of toys - Mechanical and physical properties") of the Safety Design Principles Standards Committee at DIN, the German Institute for Standardization e. V.
