DIN EN ISO 10218-1
Robots and robotic devices - Safety requirements for industrial robots - Part 1: Robots (ISO 10218-1:2011); German version EN ISO 10218-1:2011
Industrieroboter - Sicherheitsanforderungen - Teil 1: Roboter (ISO 10218-1:2011); Deutsche Fassung EN ISO 10218-1:2011
Overview
This standard defines relevant requirements set out in Annex I of the EC Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC, relating to machines which were placed on the European Economic Area (EEA) market for the first time, with the intent of simplifying the means of proving conformity with such requirements. Once this standard is designated a harmonized standard in the Official Journal of the European Communities, a manufacturer applying this standard may assume compliance with the requirements of the Machinery Directive (the so-called presumption of conformity). This part of ISO 10218-1 specifies requirements and guidelines for the inherent safe design, protective measures and information for use of industrial robots. It describes basic hazards associated with robots and provides requirements to eliminate, or adequately reduce, the risks associated with these hazards. This standard contains the German version of EN ISO 10218:2011, which has been prepared by Technical Committee ISO/TC 184 "Automation systems and integration" in collaboration with Technical Committee CEN/TC 310 "Advanced automation technologies and their applications" at the European Committee for Standardization (CEN). The following modifications have been made with respect to DIN EN ISO 10218-1:2009-07: a) the technical substance of the standard has been revised (ISO lead) to be in line with the safety requirements of the new Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC; b) a number of editorial corrections, which became necessary due to the revision of Part 2 of ISO 10218 which has taken place in the meantime, have been made (ISO lead). The national interests during the preparation are represented by Committee NA 060-30-02 AA "Roboter und Robotikgeräte" ("Robots and robotic devices") of Technical Section "Automation and Integration" of the Mechanical Engineering Standards Committee (NAM) at DIN. Representatives of the manufacturers and users of robots and robotic devices, and of the employers' liability insurance associations are involved in the preparation.
