Health and safety in welding and allied processes - Equipment for capture and separation of welding fume - Part 4: General requirements (ISO 15012-4:2016); German version EN ISO 15012-4:2016
Arbeits- und Gesundheitsschutz beim Schweißen und bei verwandten Verfahren - Einrichtungen zum Erfassen und Abscheiden von Schweißrauch - Teil 4: Allgemeine Anforderungen (ISO 15012-4:2016); Deutsche Fassung EN ISO 15012-4:2016
Overview
Welding and allied processes generate fumes and gases that can be harmful to human health if inhaled. Therefore, generated fumes and gases have to be controlled in order to minimize exposure to welders. The most effective method of control is to capture fumes and gases near their source of generation before they enter the welder's breathing zone or work environment. The ventilation system used to capture fumes and gases shall be fit for purpose because inadequate capture could result in severe exposure and be harmful to the welder's health. Therefore, it is important that it meets specified requirements for manufacture, materials, and design, and that it warns in the event of malfunction. This part of ISO 15012 specifies the general requirements for a ventilation system to maintain fume exposure at acceptable levels. This part of ISO 15012 defines the general requirements for ventilation equipment used to control exposure to fumes generated by welding and allied processes. It applies to the design and manufacture of all parts of the equipment including hoods, ducting, filter units, air movers, systems that inform of unsafe operation and workplace practices to ensure safe working with regard to exposure. The committee responsible for this standard is NA 092-00-09 AA "Arbeits- und Gesundheitsschutz beim Schweißen und verwandte Verfahren" ("Health and safety in welding and allied processes") at DIN.
