Radiotherapy treatment planning systems - Part 5: Constancy testing of characteristics
Bestrahlungsplanungssysteme - Teil 5: Konstanzprüfungen von Kennmerkmalen
Overview
This standard applies to radiotherapy treatment planning systems (RTPS) used in medicine for therapeutic purposes. The standard contains test characteristics and methods for their determination which are suitable for checking the constancy of the function of the RTPS. The characteristics describe the correct condition of the RTPS during the commissioning test. The tests listed apply to RTPS for the calculation of radiation plans for teletherapy and brachytherapy, including the planning of procedures for intensity modulated radiotherapy (IMRT) and procedures for volumetric modulated arc therapy (VMAT). This standard may also be used if, after changes to the RTPS, the constancy of those characteristics needs be checked on which the changes to the RTPS should not have any influence. The testing of characteristics that are changed by changes to the RTPS is not the subject of this standard. Characteristics which are modified by the changes to the RTPS require a new determination by repeating the commissioning test before a constancy test. This standard does not include the constancy test of the entire treatment system and not the constancy test of imaging procedures which are used as the basis for treatment planning. The standard has been prepared by Working Committee NA 080-00-05 AA "Strahlentherapie" ("Radiotherapy") of the Radiology Standards Committee (NAR).
