Test method for hot cell shielding with gamma point sources
Prüfverfahren für Abschirmungen von Heißen Zellen mit punktförmigen Gammastrahlern
Overview
The standard shall be applied for testing all hot cell shielding and similar spaces shielded against gamma radiation in which handling of virtual gamma point sources is intended; shielding and spaces are intended to protect persons and have been permanently installed or are particularly available for routine use. This can include, in particular, rooms, boxes and ducts, and others, which are shielded, for example, with concrete, lead, steel, glass or water. Measures for quality assurance for the design and manufacture of shielding (for example, determining the composition, density and homogeneity of the shielding materials used as well as the dimensions of the shielding) are outside the scope of this standard. The purpose of this standard is to specify a test method with point sources for shielding against gamma radiation to verify compliance with the design dose rate values. For this purpose, determination of data in the test programme is intended to enable comparison of the area dose rates measured during the test with the design dose rate values and as a result any defects can be detected which could lead to inadmissible radiation exposure of persons. This document has been prepared by NA 062-07-34 AA "Abschirmungen" ("Shielding") at the Materials Testing Standards Committee (NMP) at DIN.
