Bildgebende Systeme in der Nuklearmedizin - Merkmale und Prüfbedingungen - Teil 1: Positronen-Emissions-Tomographen (IEC 61675-1:1998 + A1:2008); Deutsche Fassung EN 61675-1:1998 + A1:2008
Overview
The standard specifies terminology and test methods for declaring the characteristics of positron emission tomographs. Positron emission tomographs record the annihilation radiation of radionuclides which emit positrons, by coincidence detection. The test methods given in this standard were chosen in order to reflect the clinical application of positron emission tomography as closely as possible. The given test methods are intended to be used by the manufacturers and enable them to describe the characteristics of positron emission tomographs. No test method is given for the characterization of homogeneous reconstructed pictures because all current known methods mainly reflect the noise in the pictures. This standard incorporates IEC's Amendment 1, which describes the conditions under which positron emission tomographs operated in full 3D mode can be tested. The 3D imaging is simulated without the introduction of new testing phantoms or new image acquisition and processing protocols. As a result the test simulates realistic counting rate characteristics. Measurement of the portion of scattered radiation is not the aim of this test. At DIN, the German Institute for Standardization, the Committee responsible for this standard is NA 080-00-13 GA Joint Committee NAR/DKE "Nuklearmedizin" ("Nuclear medicine"), collaborating with Deutsche Röntgengesellschaft (German Radiological Society), DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE, Deutsche Gesellschaft für Nuklearmedizin e. V. (DGN) (German Society of Nuclear Medicine), Deutsche Gesellschaft für Medizinische Physik e. V. (DGMP) (German Society for Medical Physics) and Deutsche Gesellschaft für Radioonkologie (DEGRO) e. V. (German Society for Radio Oncology).
