Overview
This DIN SPEC has been prepared by a workshop (temporary committee) in the course of the PAS procedure. This DIN SPEC has been prepared and adopted by the authors named in the foreword. This DIN SPEC describes a process for the characterization of the volume flux density of sprays, used in industrial processes or in agriculture. The acquisition of the volume flux density follows from directly measurable parameters: the drop size and velocity, as well as the drop count rate and the reference measurement area. Also, requirements for the necessary spatial resolution of the method and the permitted measurement uncertainties are discussed. Only optical measurement techniques can be considered, because the spray should not be influenced by the measurement. This DIN SPEC applies to applications with drop diameters between 1 μm and 1 000 μm. Furthermore, it specifies which capabilities a measurement technique should possess to measure transparent drops and also those which absorb a measurable part of the illuminating light. Finally, it assumes that the drops are spherical.
