Firefighting and fire protection - Escape ladder installations - Part 1: Escape ladder with falling protection, holding device, platform
Feuerwehrwesen - Notleiteranlagen - Teil 1: Ortsfeste Notsteigleitern mit Rückenschutz, Haltevorrichtung, Podeste
Overview
The standard contains requirements for metal escape ladder installations on buildings that can be used by people capable of self-rescue in the event of danger, and specifies terms, dimensions and safety requirements. For the purposes of this standard, people are considered to be capable of self-rescue if they are both mentally and physically able to use an escape ladder installation in accordance with this standard in a self-determined manner. The standard does not regulate in which cases escape ladder installations are to be installed, but merely specifies the design. The specifications are limited to the necessary requirements because escape ladder installations are only used in exceptional cases. Among other things, the railings of access and transfer platforms are not subject to the requirements of building regulations, as the railings are adequately protected against misuse (such as children playing) by the window sill. The standard does not apply to fields of application in which fixed ladder systems are designed and used as traffic ways or access points. The escape ladder installation may consist of the following components: - escape ladder with falling protection; - access platform; - transfer platform; - holding device. The January 2004 edition of DIN 14094-1 has been revised to bring the content of the standard up to date, in particular - dimensions and requirements have been completely revised and partially adapted to DIN 18799-1 (Fixed structural ladders with side rails) and DIN EN ISO 14122-4 (Fixed ladders for access to machinery); - escape ladder with falling protection deleted; - falling protection and platform tests revised; - anchoring revised; - marking and periodic inspections revised; - assembly and operating instructions completely revised and expanded; - normative references and bibliography updated. The standard has been prepared following preparatory work by Working Group NA 031-04-02-05 AK "Notleiteranlagen DIN 14094" ("Escape ladder installations DIN 14094") of Working Committee NA 031-04-02 AA "Bauliche Anlagen und Einrichtungen" ("Constructional facilities and equipment") at DIN Standards Committee Firefighting and Fire Protection (FNFW).
