DIN Standards Committee Mechanical Engineering

Overview

This standard defines relevant requirements set out in Annex I of EU Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC, relating to machines which were placed on the European Economic Area (EEA) market for the first time, with the intent of simplifying the means of proving conformity with these requirements. Once this standard is designated a harmonized standard in the Official Journal of the European Union, a manufacturer applying this standard may assume compliance with the requirements of the Machinery Directive (the so-called presumption of conformity). This European Standard specifies the general safety requirements of slewing variable-reach rough-terrain trucks (here-after referred to as trucks), consisting of a lower chassis with a slewing upper structure equipped with a telescopic lifting means (pivoted boom), on which a load handling device (for example, carriage and fork arms) is typically fitted. This standard contains the German version of EN 1459-2:2015 which has been prepared by Technical Committee CEN/TC 150 "Industrial trucks - Safety" at the European Committee for Standardization (CEN). EN 1459:2012-06 has been divided into several parts and replaced by these: - Part 1: Variable-reach trucks - Part 2: Slewing variable-reach trucks - Part 3: Interface between the variable-reach truck and the work platform - Part 4: Additional requirements for variable-reach trucks handling freely suspended loads - Part 5: Attachment interface. There are also two additional parts. - Part 6: Application of EN ISO 13849-1 to slewing and non-slewing variable-reach rough-terrain trucks (CEN/TR) - Part 7: Test method and determination of noise emission. The national interests during preparation of the standard were represented by Working Committee NA 060-22-43 AA "Rough-terrain trucks" of Section "Materials handling technology" at DIN Standards Committee Mechanical Engineering (NAM). Representatives of manufacturers and users of industrial trucks and of the employers' liability insurance associations contributed to this standard.
