DIN Standards Committee Mechanical Engineering

Overview

This standard defines relevant requirements set out in Annex I of the EC Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC, relating to machines which were placed on the European Economic Area (EEA) market for the first time, with the intent of simplifying the means of proving conformity with such requirements. Once this standard is designated a harmonized standard in the Official Journal of the European Communities, a manufacturer applying this standard may assume compliance with the requirements of the Machinery Directive (the so-called presumption of conformity). This European Standard covers the following groups of machines: a) pallet banding machines; b) stretch film pallet wrapping machines; c) stretch film hood application machines; d) mobile stretch film wrapping machines; e) semi automatic self driving stretch film wrapping machines; f) shrink film pallet wrapping machines; g) shrink film hood application machines; h) film removing machines. This European Standard deals with safety requirements for design, construction, installation, commissioning, operation, adjustment, maintenance and cleaning of pallet wrapping machines. The extents to which hazards, hazardous situations and events are covered are indicated in clause 4. Exclusions This standard is not applicable to the following machines: a) machines that were manufactured before the date of publication of this document by CEN; b) pallet strapping machines and destrapping machines. These machines are within the scope of EN 415-8; c) conveying systems that connect packaging machines with each other, but includes conveying systems that are part of the machines. d) This standard does not consider the following hazards: e) the use of pallet wrapping machines in potentially explosive atmospheres; f) the health, safety or hygiene hazards associated with the products that may be handled by the machines. This however includes general advice on this subject; g) hazards that may be associated with electromagnetic emissions from pallet wrapping machines; h) hazards that may be associated with decommissioning pallet wrapping machines. This standard contains the German version of EN EN 415-6:2013 which has been prepared by Technical Committee CEN/TC 146 "Packaging machines - Safety" at the European Committee for Standardization (CEN). The following modifications have been made with respect to DIN EN 415-6:2010-08: a) clause 2 Normative references: normative references in this clause and throughout the text have been updated. b) 5.3.2 Rotary table machines and spiral pallet wrapping machines: This subclause has been revised. c) 5.3.6 Semi automatic self driving pallet stretch wrapping machine: This subclause has been revised. d) Annex A: Has been revised and states that requirements are now given in EN 415-9:2009. e) Annex ZA: Now refers to the relationship between this European Standard and the Essential Requirements of EU Directive 2006/42/EC. f) Annex ZB: Omitted. The content can now be found in Annex ZA. g) Bibliography: The referenced have been updated. The national interests during the preparation have been represented by NA 060-18-21 AA "Sicherheit von Verpackungsmaschinen - Paletteneinschlagmaschinen" ("Safety of packaging machines - Pallet wrapping machines") of Technical Section "Nahrungsmittelmaschinen und Verpackungsmaschinen" ("Food processing machines and packaging machines") of the Mechanical Engineering Standards Committee (NAM) at DIN. Representatives of manufacturers and users of pallet wrapping machines and of the employers' liability insurance associations are involved in the preparation.
