Continuous Surface Miner (CSM) - Safety
Continuous Surface Miner (CSM) - Sicherheit
Overview
Continuous Surface Miners (CSMs) are self-propelled mining machines on crawler tracks which remove rocks layer by layer with a milling drum in above-ground subsurface material extraction activities. The advantage of CSMs is that the raw material can be extracted, crushed and loaded in one operation. The advantages with regard to conventional mining methods are that the vibrations resulting from blasting cannot occur, that the deposit is selectively and therefore carefully mined and that the surfaces and benches occurring during cutting are very clean and stabile. The standard deals with all significant hazards, hazardous situations and events relating to CSMs when they are used as intended and under the conditions foreseen by the manufacturer. The standard has been prepared by Working Committee NA 008-10-03 AA "Surface Miner" ("Surface miners") at FABERG.
