DIN/VDI Standards Committee Acoustics, Noise Control and Vibration Engineering

Overview

This standard is a guideline for the frame standards of the series DIN EN ISO 11201 to DIN EN ISO 11205 on the determination of emission sound pressure levels at work stations and other specified positions of machinery and equipment. It is intended for the following purposes: - providing physical explanations of this noise emission quantity and comparing it to other noise quantities; - comparing the different measurement methods offered by the standard series; - facilitating the selection of the most appropriate method(s) in typical practical situations; - facilitating the preparation of machine-specific noise test codes. In addition to the terms and definitions used in the standard series, the standard explains the most important noise emission quantities for machinery. A detailed overview over the various methods specified in the standards of the series DIN EN ISO 11201 to DIN EN ISO 11205 is given. For selection of the most suitable method, the standards of this series are compared with respect to various criteria in tabular form; further support is provided in the form of flow charts. Supplementary considerations and factors supporting the selection are given and the benefits and constraints of the methods of the individual standards are listed in another table. Annexes give information on the test environment and relevant environmental corrections as well as a case study of practical applications including details of the calculation of results for each of the standards. The underlying International standard has been prepared by Working Group 28 "Basic machinery noise emission standards" of ISO/TC 43/SC1 "Noise" with German collaboration. On the European level, the standard is under the responsibility of CEN/TC 211 "Acoustics". Regarding the German collaboration, the responsible committee is Working Committee NA 001-01-04 AA "Geräuschemission von Maschinen und Anlagen: Messung, Minderung, Datensammlung" ("Noise emission of machines and plants: measurement, reduction, data collection") of NALS.
