DIN 10523
Food hygiene - Pest control in the food area
Lebensmittelhygiene - Schädlingsbekämpfung im Lebensmittelbereich
Overview
This standard is applicable for pest control in the food area and shall serve as an aid during selection and implementation of suitable and appropriate measures for pest control. It provides a guide for the prevention, introduction of suitable control systems and implementation of the pest control measures during manufacture, handling and distribution of foodstuffs. DIN 10523 is associated with the legal regulations from the food hygiene sector, such as Regulation (EC) No. 852/2004, the Lebensmittel- und Futtermittelgesetzbuch (LFGB) (The German Food and Feed Code) and the Lebensmittelhygiene-Verordnung (LMHV) (the German Food and Hygiene Act). It substantiates the legal requirements and serves for orientation of foodstuff companies responsible for pest control at the business premises. The aim of pest control measures is to facilitate conformance to hygienically impeccable conditions during handling foodstuffs. In this regard, the standard regarding the topic "Pest control" shall be understood as a guideline to comply with the obligation for pest control. It serves for recognition, introduction and implementation of the extent and content of appropriate measures for control and abatement. This process standard, which deals with particular aspects of Health and Safety, is generally formulated for all sectors of the food industry. Pest control measures shall be however fully assigned to the respective operational conditions and pest as well as the types of products and processes. This standard has been prepared by Working Group NA 057-02-01 AA "Lebensmittelhygiene" ("Food hygiene"), Working Group NA 057-02-01-14 AK "Schädlingsbekämpfung im Lebensmittelbereich" ("Pest control in the food area") at DIN Standards Committee Food and Agricultural Products (NAL).
