Overview

This document specifies the type verification of sampling equipment on milk collecting tankers for representativeness of the sample and for carryover from sample to sample. This document applies to - newly developed sampling equipment; - already used or type-tested sampling equipment after technical modifications. The regular inspection of sampling equipment on milk collecting tankers for representativeness of the sample as well as for carry-over from sample to sample (verification and subsequent verification) is specified in DIN 11868-1. If the essential design features of sampling equipment are changed in such a way that the sampling characteristics are also changed, then a new type verification shall be carried out for the modified version. The type designation of the modified version shall be documented in the test report. The type verification is carried out prior to initial commissioning or before re-commissioning of the sampling equipment. The verification is carried out by a committee of experts who shall be provided with a written description of the functional principle with all the functions of the sampling equipment that are capable of being influenced by the control system. The components and features of the tested equipment that influence sampling shall be documented in the test report in accordance with Annex A. If the requirements are not met, then the test shall be repeated only after the defects that have occurred have been eliminated. In this case it shall be ensured that the sampling equipment is not used until the test has been repeated. Approval of the passed type verification is limited in advance to 12 months after the passed test. After 12 months the type-verifying body shall grant permanent approval, provided that no findings have been made in routine operation up to that time which would result in a restriction of the approval. This document is intended as a replacement for DIN 11868-2:2002-11. Compared with this standard the reference to the ADR 1.3 guideline in the foreword has been deleted and DIN EN ISO 1211 has been included in the normative references. Furthermore, the procedure for permanent approvals has been specified and the temperature specifications for raw milk have been changed. Skim milk is now used instead of water for the carry-over test. The minimum number for different milk quantities per switching level in the representativeness test has been limited to three. A subclause on the validation of results has been included and the document has been technically and editorially revised and supplemented and thus adapted to currently valid design rules.
